HotelSim Paper
As part of my Hospitality Information Analysis course (HTM 373) at Grand Valley State University, we spent the semester posing as the management company of a simulated hotel. The simulation involved setting hotel room rates for a variety of booking channels, deciding staff pay, choosing the number of staff needed per quarter, choosing which refurbishments to implement, setting rates for the hotel restaurant's menu, adding services to the hotel, and more. We ran the simulation for 3 weeks, which equated to 3 years for the hotel, using our fellow classmates' hotels as competition. Following the completion of the simulation we wrote a finance report to the hotel's "board of directors" explaining all the steps that our management company took over the last three years to improve the hotel and explain it's current financial status.
